A guest brought up this question recently, so let’s tell the story from our perspective.
For the first 70 years of the Woodland Motor Lodge’s history, it was our practice to clean each guest’s room every day during multiple-day stays. It’s long been clear that cleanliness is a necessity and hallmark of our success here.
Then came 2020 and COVID.
Along with nearly all hotels in the USA we stopped regular practice of entering guest rooms after guests checked in and before they left. This started to protect both our cleaners and guests, and because of external mandates.
Well, we still run things that way, even though the immediate COVID emergency has passed. Why haven’t we re-started our former practices? Here’s a summary of our main points behind this decision:
- Most hotels are running this way now
- Most guests are fine and don’t mind this practice. We’ve had very few complaints or concerns about this.
- We’ve found the new arrangement a better use of our helpers’ resources. Instead of re-making your bed and re-cleaning your coffee station we can devote more resources toward:
- Cleaning outside the rooms
- Landscaping
- Deeper cleaning in between guest check-out and check-in
We don’t have fewer cleaners or less cleaning these days, we’ve just re-prioritized.
